I just had a look at the new Google "my location" service launched this week. Being a Location expert, I have been looking closely to see how well it works. On first pass, it is quite similar to the Psiloc Locatik service launched at the Symbian Smartphone show in London in October.   more »

I was in the Selfridges Carphone Warehouse store on the weekend in Oxford street, and I happened to walk past the in-store iPhone stand (shown on the left). As I was playing with one of the iPhones on display, I overheard the sales pitch from one of the young sales people to a couple of young girls. What caught my attention was when he was showing the internet browser and said "...superfast internet...with 3.5G technology".   more »

Recently I attended the Financial Times World Telecoms Conference in London. Upon registration, I picked up my delegate badge and was ushered towards an interesting machine that contained a camera and small LCD screen. My photograph was taken by the camera, and I was handed a "spotme" machine.   more »

At this week's Financial Times World Telecoms Conference in London, I raised an interesting issue at the end of the session on "convergence". As an industry we pride ourselves in TLA (three letter acronyms) and buzzwords, but the whole session was talking about convergence this etc.   more »
